I am Aniyah Veal. I'm a recent graduate of Temple University where I majored in English. I am anticipating getting my master's degree for English from Temple University in May 2022. I've been writing short stories and the occasional poem since my senior year of high school. These are the products of my classwork and spare time.
Although I enjoy poetry, my main focus is on writing fiction pieces. I will share some of my poetry, but I feel my real talent is writing fiction. I don't think I have one genre that I tend to write within. My fiction writing style is more consistent than the genre I’ll write in. I like exploring the strength of connection in relationships and how bonds bleed into interactions. I’m fascinated with body language, internal thoughts and what’s said and/or not said in a conversation, all of which is evident in my writing.
2022 update:
While I still have a huge passion for fiction writing, I haven't had much time for short story writing. Graduate school has kept me very busy. When I have more time, I'll get back into practice and start posting more on here. I also took a course on creative nonfiction a few semesters ago and really enjoyed it. I want to keep experimenting with that form as well and maybe share some of those pieces.
In a shocking turn of events, as you can probably tell from my previous paragraphs, I've been writing a lot of poetry! I like how poetry lets me release emotions quickly in bursts. I started a writing Instagram page in December 2020 because I needed a steady creative outlet that was more time managable. Writing on Instagram gave me the ability to express myself with a lot more conciseness as well. I like writing poetry much more now and I'm much more active there. My writing page is aniyahwrites
